Midwifery Revolution: A Day (or Two) Off-Call

“If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be a part of your revolution.” - Emma Goldman

I'm so excited to be sharing a guest post today from student midwife, Gloria González Campise. Gloria reached out to me months ago after seeing my video online and the things that she had to say were so poignant, I just knew I wanted her to write something to share with you all here. Her perspective is that of a current student and she has written her perspective so wonderfully well. My mission here is to spread the word and let everyone know that you are NOT ALONE with your feelings about this topic. We all want to be able to take care of ourselves and our families and our clients, so little by little we're going to help eachother do that.

YEah!

"Obviously one client a month isn't making a group practice a lot of money but we are also sharing on call time and prenatals and working less. And we can take days off without a stranger caring for our client. AND we are 3 unique and very awesome women and our clients are going to love us and we are going to rock consults and be hired to the point that we are full"

Pushing a Big Ol' Tire together!

"I love it! This is what I want midwives doing. I know that group practice is the ultimate goal and I believe it is the best thing for clients, the best thing for midwives, and the best thing for the future of midwifery. But as I said in my presentation, it's not going to be an easy switch to just jump from A to B, we're in a transitionary phase that may last awhile but that starts with individual midwives doing the hard work of setting up a practice that WORKS FOR THEM so that they can hopefully remain in practice for a long time and train more midwives to do the same. So, high five to you. You are my vision come to life (-:"

Help Me Help You

So, I'm back. For awhile at least. I got married (yay!) I honeymooned (in Hawaii, yay!) and I moved into my new pad with my husband (yay!)  And now that things are settling in, I have some more time to focus on this page as well as a few more teaching, speaking and writing opportunities.

Crickets...

Hello all! I'm sorry I have been MIA on the internet. My passion has not died and I've been working on some pretty cool real world things to get this idea out to everyone I can.

Why are you here?

My guess is that most of you are here because you saw my video and it struck a chord in you. So now that you’ve looked around you know a little bit more about what I’m about and what this space is about. But where do we go from here? That’s where you come in. We’re supposed to work together right? I have ideas, but I still need more ideas.

Help me, help you.

Why Am I Here?

I’m here because I want more midwives. I’m here because I believe so passionately about the midwives model of care that I want to make midwifery more attainable, sustainable and realistic as a career goal for women.

I love birth. I love women. I love babies. I’m good at what I do. I’m not afraid of it.

This is not about us - A Manifesto

This is not about us. This is about moms and babies and dads and families. This is about bringing the Midwives Model of Care to more American families. This is about making the world a better place. Peace on earth starts with birth. Peace on earth starts with midwifery care for moms and babies. This is not about our own individual practices, this is about midwifery. This is about going back to the spirit of what midwifery is. This is about women helping women
